Anup Sharma is an award-winning Independent Strategic Communication Consultant with two and a half decades of experience in Public Relations, Public Policy Communications, Political Campaign Management, Digital and Social Media Outreach. With a deep understanding of the challenges in the Indian demographic framework, Anup brings in abilities to decipher and connect with multiple stakeholder environments through strategic integrated communication models.
Anup serves on the board of Centre for Empowerment & Development Studies (CEDS) and is external communication consultant with PMNCH, the world’s largest alliance for women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health and well-being and a multi-constituency partnership hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO). He was earlier associated with MyGov India, the citizen engagement platform for the Government of India and was communication consultant to the Union Ministry of Urban Development, for their key initiatives including Swachh Bharat and Smart City.
Earlier, as an external consultant for World Bank, Anup had been involved in designing & implementing the communication component for the National Rural Livelihood Mission, Agriculture & Rural Development Program and with IFC (Intl Finance Corporation) was part of the lead communication team in the Investment Climate Advisory (tax reform program) for the Government of Bihar. Prior to this he was leading the design, management, monitoring and evaluation of strategic communication and partnerships for the UNICEF: `India Unite To End Polio Now’ campaign with AidMatrix India.
Anup has devised and conducted reputation and public affairs programs for multinational companies and interest groups across a broad range of industries and political leaders including head of states and first-time contestants. He was closely involved in the media campaign for three chief ministers, two union ministers across party lines, advising and managing their key messaging and social media campaigns as part of the election war room. Anup has counselled clients across sectors and has been associated with many leading Indian and global corporations including Tata Group, Coca-Cola, Google India, Government of Punjab & Rajasthan, POSCO-India, Cairn India, SABMiller India, Max India, CNBC Asia, Seagate.
In his over two and a half decades of professional career, Anup has worked with some of the leading Public Relations, Communications & Marketing firms including Weber Shandwick, Perfect Relations, Vaishnavi Corporate Communications, Solutions I Digitas. A former Senior Director with Public Relations Consultants Association of India (PRCAI), he is an active member of various industry bodies.
Anup is an MBA in Advertising & Public Relations from Indore and holds a Post Graduate diploma in Sales & Marketing. Ranked 19 globally in the Commetric’s #PRMeasurement top 100 PR Influencer Index, Anup is also recognised as the top 100 Influential Game Changer of India (in the Public Relations space). Anup is a regular columnist and also a visiting faculty to communication and management institutes across India where he shares his experience of the science of Communications for the Corporate and Development sector. He has also been involved in conceptualising and curating properties like #360DegreeDisruption for the World Bank. Closely involved with various TEDx events, Anup curates programs under Scribes & Storytellers and is an advisor to The Delhi Literature Festival, The Patna Literary Festival and #AdvantageConclave, Bihar.
